Theresa May, Britain’s next Prime Minister, is attracting worldwide recognition
This follows the Brexit vote that led David Cameron announce his resignation, after the country voted to leave the European Union.
But who exactly is she?
The new conservative party leader, will be Britain’s second female prime minister after Margaret Thatcher.
Just like the iron lady, May has earned the reputation of a tough, quiet, and capable politician, who will no doubt tackle the future of the United Kingdom, particularly during this crucial moment for her country.
She was the Member of Parliament for Maidenhead since 1997 and home secretary since May 2010, making her UK’s longest serving home secretary in more than a century.
Her success appears rooted in her ability to maintain poise amid political chaos. Long known to have nurtured leadership hopes, Mrs. May – whose friends recall her early ambition to be UK’s first female PM – could have reasonably expected to have had to wait until at least 2018 to have a shot at Downing Street.
But all this changed after Brexit.
She is married to Philip May, who was president of the Oxford Union, a well-known breeding ground for future political leaders.
The 59 year-old is expected to address key issues in the country, among them, to create a more gender-balanced cabinet.
